Keble At Large

Keble at Large is the college’s student-led Outreach Society. Dedicated to myth-busting and truth-spreading, the society is built up of engaged, socially conscientious, Keblites who really want to make a difference to the way Oxford is perceived!

Keble, like many Oxford colleges, has a society dedicated to improving access for those from underrepresented socio-economic and educational backgrounds.

On a day-to-day basis, this means giving tours to students from target schools up and down the country, primarily from our Regional Outreach linked schools in the West Midlands (specifically the local authorities in Birmingham, Coventry, Sandwell, Solihull and Warwickshire). These tours are vital because they demystify Oxford and quash misconceptions about student life here for students who often lack expertise and support from school throughout their Oxbridge applications.

Like KAL on Facebook to keep up to date with everything we’re doing, and join the volunteer group as a low-commitment way to get involved with running tours yourself – these sessions only take 30-45 minutes of your time, but they make a real difference to students who may be unsure, wary or simply uninformed about Oxford and the application process.

KAL also has big plans beyond simply giving tours! In Michaelmas, applications will open for the 2018-19 KAL Committee, comprised of subcommittees whose role it is to enhance the society’s social media and practical outreach presence. Keble at Large’s Alternative Open Day offers tailored sessions for Year 13 students in the midst of the application process and we need as much help as possible to make this as effective as it can be for prospective applicants. We are also planning a media project to showcase Keble’s best bits and answer applicants’ questions to continue busting myths about the university.

KAL unites Keble students from all socio-economic backgrounds in the aim to make a difference and has done great things since its creation, but we want it to continually evolve and improve and hope that this year will be its most successful one yet! If you would like to get involved in Keble at Large’s Committee, or have any questions whatsoever, please do not hesitate to get in touch with KAL President Shona Galt via email or Facebook.
