Women’s Rowing

Hi everyone, I’m Hannah, this year’s Keble women’s rowing captain!

Keble has a strong and competitive squad and is known for consistently producing successful boats. We have excellent facilities and coaching, and train hard to make full use of both of these, which has resulted in some outstanding outcomes. We have qualified for the Henley Boat Races as the fastest Oxford college crew, to race against the fastest Cambridge college, for the past two years, and have also triumphed at Henley 4s and 8s in these years. We have also enjoyed great success at both Torpids and Summer 8s (the big inter-college competitions), and are pushing for headship in the near future.

Rowing is also an extremely good way to keep fit and healthy, and is a sport that fits well alongside the academic and social commitments that fill life at Oxford. I’d like to dispel the rumour that it’s all early starts- there really aren’t that many, and they’re not all that awful! As important as the competitive nature of the sport, is the social aspect. Rowing is an excellent way to make friends across the years at Keble, and we are a close-knit, welcoming group, it’s no exaggeration to say that you can make some of your best friends through rowing- and the crew dates are pretty good too.

Finally, I’d really like to stress that no prior rowing experience is required and almost all of our squad learned to row here, so if you’re thinking about it please give it a try. If you have any questions or want to get in touch, please email me at hannah.coles@keble.ox.ac.uk.
